Corey Selhorst, CPA
Hello, the first thing you should know about me is that I really despise taxes. Luckily for you, that’s exactly what you want from someone preparing your tax return, who will find every deduction, credit, and opportunity possible to help you reduce the taxes you owe. I understand it’s important for you to minimize your tax bill, I’m sure you can think of much better uses for those dollars. It’s also incredibly important to me to help you pay as little possible.
I graduated from Bowling Green State University in three years, with four majors, and received two degrees, a Bachelors of Science in Business Administrations Specializing in Accounting, Finance, and Economics and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. During my time at BGSU, I worked as a corporate tax analyst and an internal auditor, in addition to preparing tax returns every tax season. A few months after graduation, I fulfilled all of the necessary requirements and became a licensed CPA. I began working as a public accountant auditing various companies, as well as retirement plans, and preparing tax returns for clients. I then returned to BGSU and received my MBA. Currently I work seasonally as a manager at Intuit TurboTax where a team of tax experts rely on me for guidance on challenging tax topics. I have experience in many areas of tax including S-corporations, partnerships, self-employment, investments, itemized deductions, cryptocurrency, various tax credits, and much more.
I’ve had 10 years of experience preparing tax returns and working hard to ensure those I assist pay the least possible. I’ve helped clients tax plan, reducing their tax bills by thousands of dollars. As an auditor, attention to detail is very important, which is one of the pieces to help me catch ways to reduce taxes that others have missed. The other piece is truly caring and desiring to be a partner to clients in tax reduction. While I hate taxes, I love helping people pay less in taxes.
While tax preparation and planning is very important, I have a strong passion for helping others build a better financial future for themselves. I love to help people discover that financial dreams that they never thought were possible are not only possible, but attainable earlier than many ever conceived. It is inspiring for me to help clients reach goals like retiring early, leaving a sizable inheritance for their descendants, buying a home, paying off debt, and so many more. In auditing retirement plans and investments, I’ve been able to learn these areas inside and out, both the technical and emotional side.
While many “advisors” are willing to take a certain percentage of client’s money every year for “managing” their funds, I refuse to do so. Money managers are much more concerned about your money than you and are finding new ways it seems every year to sneak in more fees. The market provides returns, not managers. Due to this fact, I am happy to assist clients as their partner to give them the tools to manage their own money. I enjoy providing the experience and planning necessary for investment and forecasting a financial future that has my clients’ goals as the priority.
I hope you will have me as your tax and financial partner this year and for many years to come.
